GROWER
ACCOUNTING
FAMOUS Grower Accounting is the complete
process of handling and selling product for outside growers. Grower Accounting
results in a "settlement" to growers for the proceeds from the
sale of their product less applicable costs and fees.
While shippers do not take title to outside growers product, they
take possession and often grade, size, pack and perform other processes
on the product. Commonly shippers report to growers the results of such
processing as a packout. Shippers typically sell outside growers
product in their own name with an agreement to remit proceeds, less charges,
to growers at a particular time. This requires accurate product identification
from receiving through sale.
Integrated
Grower accounting must be tightly integrated into aspects of a packer-shippers
computerized business system such as: receiving, production, inventory,
sales, invoicing and payables.
Separated
Grower product must be separated from product purchased for resale and
internal use.
Combined
While separate, grower product and product purchased for resale must share
the same system and be combined for purposes of inventory availability
and shipment.
Without Inventory
FAMOUS offers the ability to sell grower product without inventory. Some
agents only perform a sales and remittance function where growers themselves,
or a third party, prepare product for sale and store product until shipment.
Grower Blocks
A grower block identifies a grower, commodity and, optionally, variety.
Each grower may have multiple blocks including blocks of the same commodity/variety.
