Famous Software, LLC requires a remote access connection to the database server to resolve issues. Without this connection, Famous is not able to provide essential database support, which could result in the permanent loss of data.
While there are many applications that provide remote access to servers such as PCAnywhere®, Terminal Services® (Remote Desktop), Citrix®, or VNC®, these applications cannot be used by Famous. Famous requires a TCP/IP network connection with administrative privileges to the database server. Once connected, Famous should be able to perform any task that a local client workstation does, such as copying files and connecting to the Famous database.
Microsoft provides the Routing and Remote Access Service (RRAS), which allows remote users to connect to a server via a modem or Internet connection. This is the preferred method for providing remote access.
Some routers, firewall, and VPN devices can also provide this service. These devices may be used providing they are compatible with delivered Microsoft client software and protocols. Famous cannot use connections that require proprietary client software.
The Configuring Routing and Remote Access document provides detailed instructions for configuring RRAS. If you have any questions or require assistance configuring RRAS, our Network Services Department is available to assist you at (559) 431-8100.
