Food Safety and Case Level Traceability

Famous Software Food Safety, trace and trackFamous Version 6 software users get all the elements of an effective Can-Trace compliant solution right out of the box. Optional bar-coding, RFID, and wireless terminal features can further automate tracking.

Built in Case Level Traceability

An example of Traceability in Famous

In this hypothetical example, a customer (Albertsons), is interested in Cello 24s, U.S. #1 Seasons Best on order 10113. From your Famous Software V6 records, you learn almost instantly that the lettuce was from grower lot 053001 and shipped to Albertsons on February 12, 2008, via a pallet with a tag numbered 531, destined for Boise, ID:

One screen shows all 12 Can-Trace data elements

This single Famous Software V6 Order Inquiry screen shows all 12 of the Can-Trace mandatory data elements for the selling, or “one down” side of the transaction. Specifically:

  1. Input Lot numbers: Grower Block (08SMFLET) and Lot ID (21208A)
  2. Product Description: Lettuce Cello 24s U.S. #1 Seasons Best
  3. Product Identifier: Lettuce Lettuce Cello 24 U.S. #1 Seasons Best
  4. Quantity: 56
  5. Receipt Date: 2/12/08 (from grower in this case)
  6. Receiver Identifier: Professional Fruit and Vegetables (You)
  7. Sender Identifier: Professional Fruit and Vegetables (You)
  8. Ship Date: Feb 12, 2008
  9. Ship From Location Identifier: Warehouse 1 (You)
  10. Ship To Location: Albertsons Inc, Boise, ID
  11. Shipment Identifier: Pallet tag 531
  12. Unit of Measure: ctn (Carton)

A quick Inventory Sales Cross-Reference by Tag inquiry for pallet tag 531 provides the related grower’s name, referred to as the “one up” information. As you can see below, the lettuce was grown at Santa Maria Farms. While this answers Albertson’s specific question, the job’s not quite done.

Did Albertsons get more of this product on different orders? Did any of your other customers receive this lettuce? Do you have more in stock? Has any been repacked? Has some been moved to your other warehouses? Fortunately in Famous Software Version 6 the necessary, real time data are at hand to help you quickly know all of this. The tag query also shows that:

Easily find and mark product as unavailable

  1. You received 400 cartons of the lettuce in question on February 12, 2008
  2. You shipped 206 cartons to Albertsons on two different orders, not just the 56 in question
  3. Costco Wholesale has received 56 cartons as well, on Order 10115
  4. You repacked 50 cartons (and with a few mouse clicks can find that product, too)
  5. You still have 144 cartons in Warehouse 1

It's equally easy to mark questionable product as "unavailable" to prevent further shipments. In fact, the way Famous Software tracks inventory, product origins, movement, processing and repacking, all in real time, can provide you with many layers of detail beyond what the Can-Trace specification recommends.
