    Famous Attends PMA Meeting with FDA in DC


    We feel that it is important for Famous to represent our customers and industry as the PMA and various government agencies develop new traceability policies and procedures.

    That’s why we have joined the PMA Supply Chain Efficiencies Committee.

    Among other things, the committee provides guidance and/or recommendations regarding the application of case, pallet, and item level identification and tracking tools including GS1 case/pallet coding standards, GS1 DataBar, standardized UPCs, RFID, and other emerging tools.

    Doug Rosenfeld, Famous Software’s Product Manager, recently returned from a committee meeting held in Washington, DC where attendees, including high level representatives from the FDA, met to discuss standardized fresh produce attributes, GTIN level definitions, lot sizes, pilot projects, the Food Safety Modernization Act, and related issues.

    We’ve grown quite a bit over the years. Most Famous users are here in this office but we have a lot of remote users as well.

    Our outside facilities log into our system. They can tell when a truck will arrive, and what inventory is on the floor.

    Our order process is pretty streamlined. We encourage our sales people to use the standard orders. We also utilize FIS (EDI invoicing and purchase order integration).

    We have a lot of customers who request that.

    With FIS we are able to turn around orders electronically and get invoices to customers quickly without paper. It’s very effective and very efficient.

    Potandon is the exclusive marketer of Green Giant® Fresh potatoes and onions. The firm represents over 35,000 acres through its dedicated growers. They run a network of over 60 co-packers in 24 states with another nine in Canada. Potandon has over 100 Famous Software users.
